Abstract

Globalization has a major impact on the sustainability of regional languages, which are often marginalized by the dominance of national and global languages. Regional languages are not just a means of communication, but also a reflection of cultural identity that is rich in local values. In this context, religion plays a strategic role as a guardian of traditional values and a preserver of regional languages. This study aims to explore the role of religion in maintaining the sustainability of regional languages amidst the challenges of globalization. Using a qualitative method with a literature study approach, this study analyzes the relationship between religion, culture, and language in various local traditions. The results of the study show that the use of regional languages in religious activities, such as lectures, prayers, and traditional rituals, not only strengthens spiritual values but also maintains the existence of local languages. In addition, religious institutions and religious figures can utilize modern technology to promote regional languages through religion-based digital content. Preserving regional languages through religious values requires collaboration between the government, society, and religious leaders. By integrating local languages into religious activities and utilizing technology, regional languages can remain alive as part of the cultural and spiritual identity of the community. This effort not only preserves ancestral heritage but also strengthens the harmony between tradition and modernity in the global era.
